Off White Khadi Cotton Crushed Cami Evening Dress
- Hand-Crafted
- Exclusive to Varana
- 100% Cotton
Khadi refers to the entirely handmade. It is a fabric made from cotton that is hand-spun using a wooden spinning wheel and then hand woven. As it requires no electricity, the weaving of Khadi is the oldest form weaving fabric, and has been practiced on the Indian subcontinent for the last 5,000 years. Khadi is the ultimate symbol of artisanal craftsmanship as opposed to industrially manufactured goods, it is manufactured using solely human energy. It has renewed relevance in today's world of fast fashion as a zero carbon footprint fabric, it is woven from natural, organic fibres making it 100% biodegradable.
This is an off white cami evening dress made of Khadi in the cotton's natural white form. Twenty metres of fine high count Khadi muslin have been used to create a crushed layered effect, structured by quilting on the bust. The voluminous gathers in the skirt have been inspired by traditional garments of the Mughal period, while conveying a timeless dress form.
This garment is made to order in customised sizes and will ship within 28 days. If you need it sooner, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
As worn by Radhika Apte as part of Vogue India’s project to support the Karigars of India, all proceeds from this dress will be donated by Varana to NGOs that directly benefit the craftspeople so affected by Covid 19.
