This is a wrap blouse with puff sleeves made from natural coloured off white cotton Khadi. It features traditional techniques of hand embroidery inspired by the extraordinary Chikankari Jali embroidery technique of Lucknow. The fretwork is not patched, but created in situ by counting threads, grouping them together and binding them into a latticed pattern which requires great skill. Very few artisans remain who can still do this.

Khadi

Khadi refers to the entirely handmade. It is a fabric made from cotton that is hand-spun using a wooden spinning wheel and then hand woven. As it requires no electricity, the weaving of Khadi is the oldest form weaving fabric, and has been practiced on the Indian subcontinent for the last 5,000 years. Khadi is the ultimate symbol of artisanal craftsmanship as opposed to industrially manufactured goods.
